# Search

Papiers supports semantic and multimodal search over your entire library.

Find a passage, figure, equation, note, or conversation directly, or ask the same question and let the agent answer from your library.

## Global Search

Press `⌘⇧P` from anywhere in Papiers.

Results appear as you type. Click one to open the source, or press `Enter` to ask Papiers instead.

That makes Global Search useful for both kinds of retrieval: finding the thing itself, or getting an answer shaped by what you’ve saved.

## Find a document

The Library search finds documents by title, author, and other metadata. Narrow the results with **Type**, **Tags**, or **Date**.

Press `⌘P` in the Workspace for **Quick Open**. Recent documents appear first; start typing to find another.

## Search inside what you’ve saved

Open **Search** from the Workspace sidebar to search across the contents of your library.

Papiers indexes text, highlights, notes, conversations, figures, tables, and equations. Search is semantic, so you don’t need the exact wording.

Search for a circuit you remember seeing and Papiers can surface the figure inside a textbook or datasheet. Search for something contained in a table and the table can appear as a result.

Equations are searchable too. Paste LaTeX and Papiers can find similar expressions even when the notation isn’t an exact match.

## Search within specific documents

In Global Search, type `@` to add one or more documents before asking your question.

The agent uses those documents as context instead of searching broadly across your library.

> New documents become available to full search and the agent after processing finishes, usually within about 30 seconds to 3 minutes. You can read them while they’re still processing.
